The ultimate aim is to create a knowledge
based society.
Keeping these objectives in mind the following initiatives
are being taken up:
Forty Community Information Centers each equipped with 6
computers and a direct satellite link are being installed
all-over Sikkim. Citizens can access the Internet and also
pick up basic skills in operating computers in these centers.
Two such centers one at Gangtok and the other at Namchi
are already operated.
A Website on the Sikkim Government is under construction.
Information as diverse as employment news, tender notices,
government gazettes and prevailing prices of agricultural
commodities will be hosted. Even cabinet decisions will
be included a major step in making the functioning of the
government transparent.
A Software Technology Park is being set up. The Park will
provide wide-bandwidth, stable power supply and incubation
space for entrepreneurs. We are imparting computer training
to all government employees with an aim to train them all
within the next four years.
The Department is also promoting IT Exables Services like
Medical Transcription, Telemedicine, Computerized Braille
system etc.
